Once again, we are here making some bowl picks. I will do this throughout the season, and I am actually going to try and make them ahead of them so we do not have to worry during New Years when I am hungover somewhere in Milwaukee. Enjoy.
Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl
20. Fresno State vs. 25. USC 2:30 pm ABC - This will be a major test for Derek Carr. I think the microscope will be very big as people are talking about him being a top ten draft pick next season in the NFL Draft. If he were to struggle against an above average USC defense, I think the skeptics will come out for Carr. People do not want to hear this but Fresno State plays virtually no one this year squeaking out wins against Rutgers and Boise State. I am worried with USC having another new coach for their bowl game, but other than that, they look like the better team here. USC plays better defense than anyone Fresno saw all year and the Bulldogs defense is not good whatsoever. Also whenever these two teams play, I will forever think about Reggie Bush's game against Fresno in 2005. USC 33-21
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Buffalo vs. San Diego State 4:30 pm ESPN - The reason to watch this football game is Khalil Mack. He might be a top five draft pick when it is all said and done. If you are an NFL fan, and do not want to look like a dumbass when people are making tired jokes about 'Return of the Mack', you can tell your friends about how good Mack is as a football player. Now watch him make me look a dummy against San Diego State. Both teams lost their final game to end the season as Buffalo dropped one to Bowling Green and Aztecs to UNLV. The one glaring thing for San Diego State is how little defense they play allowing around 32 points a game. I do like San Diego's familiarity with the stadium but I like Buffalo here. They cannot stop the pass to save their life meaning Joe Licata could have a big day on the blue turf. BUF 27-23
Gildan New Mexico Bowl
Washington State vs. Colorado State 1:00 pm ESPN - Would it surprise if you a Mike Leach-coached team are top five passing team in the nation? The answer should be no. Bad news for Colorado State as they are the 109th worst passing defense in the nation. Cougars quarterback Connor Halliday could have a big game so I hope you are starting him in your fantasy lineups. I look at Colorado State's wins this year and none really jump out on the page meaning they are a rather marginal bunch who beat the teams they were supposed to. Washington State rolls in this one. WAZZU 38-14
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
Tulane vs Louisiana-Lafayette 8 pm ESPN - This is the least exciting bowl game of the day. Watch Marquette-New Mexico at this time instead of this game. One reason, Tulane does not score points. They are a pretty good defensive team, but you are not seeing points from the Green Wave. Ragin' Cajuns lost the first two games and lost the last two games while winning in the middle of it. Terrance Broadway is a hell of a player for Louisiana-Lafayette yet that is the lone bright spot for this one. Also the fact they are both Louisiana teams could add some excitement here. ULL 28-17
