Liverpool are to re-ignite their interest in Man City defender Micah Richards this summer according to Sports Direct News. The 25 year old England man was targeted by Brendan Rodgers last month but no deal was forthcoming though Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini may well be far more likely to sell the bit-part player in the summer. Richards has started just two Premier League fixtures this season with the likes of Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott Matija Nastasic and Martin Demichelis all ahead of him in the central defensive pecking order whilst consistent Argentine Pablo Zabaleta bars his way in the right-back slot. Rodgers is keen to strengthen this defence and a move for Richards would be a sensible one to pursue and the Man City man may see such a switch as the right way to re-ignite his flagging career and if Liverpool secure a top four finish then such a move would become far more likely. This source states that former Reds boss Rafa Benitez wants both Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger to lead his Napoli defence though one imagines Rodgers would not entertain the loss of either first team regular.
