The January transferwindow may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Chelseamake their move for Sami Khedira. Sami Khedira

Jose Mourinho has targetted Sami Khedira as a key summer transfer target and Chelsea officials have already opened talks with Real Madrid over a potential deal, according to talkSPORT. Khedira was a mainstay in Mourinho’s starting eleven during the Portuguese coaches time at the Bernabeu but he’s endured a difficult season under new boss Carlo Ancelotti. The German midfielder was no longer considered as an automatic first team regular at the start of the season and was strongly linked with a moveto the Premier Leaguein October after he expressed his frustration at being used as a ‘scapegoat’ for Madrid’s poor start to the campaign. ‘I’m not a Spanish player, I did not cost a lot of money and I am one of Mourinho’s disciples. ‘I started the season on the bench or in the stands. Even if I play well, I am the scapegoat and so will not be properly valued.’ Khedira is quoted as saying by the Daily Mailback in October A serious knee injury ended any hopes of a move taking place in January and the 26-year-old is now facing a race against time to be fit in time to play for Germany at this summers World Cup. However, that doesn’t appear to have deterred Chelsea from making their move withtalkSPORTclaiming that Mourinho wants to be reunited with Khedira at Stamford Bridge and the Blues have already held preliminary talks with Madrid over the midfielders availability – although Ancelotti is yet to decide whether or not to sell the disgruntled star. Madrid have regained their best form while Khedira’s been on the sidelines with big-money summer signing Asier Illaramendi and a rejuvenated Luka Modric impressing in midfield, while Xabi Alonso has also penned a new contract, so the former Stuttgart man could be deemed surplus to requirements at the end of the season. This would obviously be good news for Chelsea but any deal would surely be dependent on the player proving he’s overcome the cruciate ligament injury that’s cut short his season.
