Liverpool star slams Chelsea for not believing in him

Sturridge has some choice words for the west London club. Daniel Sturridge1

One of the best transfers of the last 12 months has to be Daniel Sturridge’s £12m move from Chelsea to Liverpool in January 2013. The England international has scored an impressive 28 goals in 35 matches since arriving on Merseyside and yet at the time, many thought the deal was a risk for the Reds. This was because Sturridge was only a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge – who was often used as a winger rather than his preferred position of striker – and the 24-year-old has revealed why things were so difficult in west London. “When I was at Chelsea I wasn’t myself,” the England international was quoted by the Mirror. “I was never sure if I’d play as a striker because people didn’t believe in me. “I was often asked to play in a different position and to do a job for the team but having been a striker and then being asked to just flick a switch and play on the wing was always going to be difficult because mentally you’re going to play the way you always have and I play on instinct. “When I was playing as a winger at Chelsea I was over-thinking it because I wasn’t used to doing it.” Rodgers certainly saw the potential in Sturridge and the Englishman has now formed a lethal partnership at Anfield with Luis Suarez – dubbed ‘SAS.’ Between the two of them they have an astonishing 40 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions this term and the striker certainly looks a lot happier now than when with the Blues
