Chaos in Cleveland: Another Bizarre Browns Decision.

Cleveland Browns have become the laughing stock of the National Football League. For awhile, Oakland Raiders held that crown, and Washington Redskins also made a run at it. But no one does it like Cleveland. They fired their first year head coach, Rob Chudzinski, someone whom showed promise at times, but the Browns felt they were better off with new coach, Mike Pettine. Today, Cleveland shifted around a majority of their front office getting firing Joe Banner and Michael Lombardi leaving the team for good. You just have to wonder what the hell is going on in Cleveland?

They feel like a man or woman who cannot stay committed to one relationship. They have a significant other, but then get tempted by someone else leading them to cut off all ties with the one they were with. That is Cleveland right now. Another comparison could be a small child with zero patience. Once they are fed up with a toy, it is time to move on to another one. Cleveland is a downright dumpster fire, and while they did keep a couple people from their front office, you cannot act like this is par for the course for anyone. This is only par for mad men, and people without the knowledge of how to build organizations.

The funniest thing about this whole ordeal is Cleveland really felt like a team on the move to be a good team. Cleveland got widely criticized for dealing Trent Richardson for a first-round pick, but it appears T-Rich has only a few miles left in the tank. The media turned their criticism into praise for this Cleveland organization for a change, and Browns fans suddenly saw light starting to develop out of the tunnel.  They just needed a quarterback. With a loaded draft upcoming in 2014 featuring Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater and Derek Carr, it seemed inevitable Cleveland would get their guy, and the ascend to the top would begin for a team that has not made the playoffs since 2002. Browns still needs a quarterback, but they also need stability which is not coming in the 2014 NFL season.

Are we really sure Cleveland will even keep Pettine as their head coach? At this point, you cannot really be sure the man will have a job until the NFL Draft happens. Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is like Charlie Day when he cuts the breaks off The Gang's car... 'Just fired Joe Banner and Lombardi is out too... WILDCARD BITCHES YEEE HAAAAAAW.'  Pettine will probably still have a job, but it is mind blowing the Browns got rid of the guys who hired him in the first place. It makes little to zero sense. I am sure stories will come out as to why this happen, but if you are a highly touted quarterback, is Cleveland the last place you want to play football right now?

Imagine if you are Manziel. He is a smart kid, knows his market, knows his brand. Manziel realizes a team like Cleveland would hurt everything he built as a college football player. He also understands the Browns supposedly had an obsession with him. If Manziel is not drafted by Houston, it is likely Cleveland would take him with the number four pick.  Are we sure Johnny Football would not pull an Eli Manning or a John Elway and simply refuse to play for the team?  Given Cleveland has one of the best wide receivers in football, Josh Gordon, I doubt Manziel would flat out refuse to play for the Browns, but I would not be surprised to hear Manziel's people trying to influence another team to trade up for him. Every player including JFF knows Cleveland is a toxic wasteland right now.

Browns could end up getting two superior draft picks, Pettine ends up being a good coach and Cleveland is the playoff hunt in what will still be a weak AFC along with a weaker AFC North. If that happens, Haslam considers himself a genius, and it might spark a terrible precdence. But usually, the laughing stock does not turn it around so quickly. It takes a ton of time including smart decisions. Browns do not seem to have the time or the brains to quell the laughter.

Davone Bess Channeled his Inner Bob Marley Last Night

I think it would be naive to think professional athletes do not smoke weed. I mean it is something many people do, and as I have told folks, professional athletes are not these robots. Cleveland Browns wide receiver Davone Bess decided to have a fun time with weed, and he appears to be a clear Rastafarian if you judge by his Twitter account. He posted a couple pictures to his public, active Twitter account late Thursday morning meaning he is either starting the day or ending the day. Either way, Bess will probably say his account was hacked or something to that effect by the end of the morning. I am sure his agent is in complete panic and Cleveland is probably seeing if there is a way to terminate his contract by violating a social media policy.

New Coaches in NFC North and Nashville

We are down to one remaining NFL team without a head coach, the Cleveland Browns. People are overreacting like they usually do when something happens like this where a team decides to wait patiently before rushing into a hire. Cleveland interviewed many candidates, and some pulled themselves out, others took jobs elsewhere and the remaining are still contenders for the job. People are act like they need to rush out and make a decision when really they can wait to make the right calls. Some teams such as Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions all made hires in the past couple of days, let's break them down.

Tennessee Titans
Ken Whisenhunt takes the job at Tennessee, a man seen in high regard as he fixed another quarterback with Phillip Rivers. Whisenhunt tries to bring back winning to a Tennessee team that has not been to the playoffs since 2008. He is known around the league as a quarterback whisperer as he revived the careers of Kurt Warner in Arizona and Phillip Rivers in San Diego. Additionally, Whisenhunt worked well with a youthful quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger as he helped lead them to a Super Bowl as an offensive coordinator when Big Ben was only 23 years old.

They hope the Whiz can work his magic with Jake Locker. He looked good when Locker could stay on the field. The latter part of that sentence is why I would draft a quarterback in the mid rounds next year if I am Tennessee. Zach Mettenberger, Logan Thomas, etc would not be a bad fit here with the Titans. I would not doubt Tennessee's playoff chances next year.

Detroit Lions
When new coaches get brought in, they are different from the last one and oh boy, is this a change of pace with Detroit going from Jim Schwartz to Jim Caldwell. Same first name, totally different attitudes. Caldwell will now be in charge of molding Matthew Stafford into an elite quarterback which will be a challenge when the guy seems to be like a spoiled pre-teen with his attitude towards offseason quarterback coaches. I will be interested to see how his calm demeanor will work with a bunch of players who have this attitude about them about being badasses. Like this is a complete change of pace, and players might react differently than people expect. I cannot really project how Caldwell will do as a coach because there are two seasons with Peyton Manning and one without him. He sucked as a college coach at Wake Forest, but that was 15-20 years ago. Jury is still out, but I do not think this is an inspired coach.

Minnesota Vikings
Mike Zimmer is the new name here, and the media basically had an orgasm upon hearing the news. Zimmer must treat everybody pretty well because everyone was happy he finally got a head coaching job. He seems like a no nonsense guy that is not afraid to break a few eggs. Like Detroit, this is a change of pace from Leslie Frazier. He seems like a good fit for any team honestly, but here's my question for Minnesota, was defense really the problem last year?  Their secondary was brutal, but when it all boils down to it, they have barely had an offensive concept more so than a porous defense. Now if the offensive coordinator they bring in can mold Christian Ponder into a game manager like an Alex Smith, and Zimmer works his magic on defense, this team might be okay a couple years down the road. I will save this for another blog post, but if Minnesota was smart, they deal Adrian Peterson this year or next year, dead serious too.

Closing Time: Johnny Football Tribute Video

I am sure by now all of you have heard Johnny Football is going pro. This might be the least surprising thing of 2014. We all saw it coming, and now we all pray to the football gods he does not end up in Minnesota. I am not sure if I want him in Cleveland. On one hand, he could befriend our buddy Murph out there, and put Sportandfashion-news on the map with help from Uncle Nate or Murph embarrasses the brand by telling Manziel he likes his calves or something to that effect. I am trust Murph and praying on the former versus the latter. Manziel to Cleveland is the wagon I will hitch myself to. Anyways, this is a cool video documenting all his big plays in his two years at Texas A&M. Loaded day on Sports News on Tap tomorrow including our first six-part piece documenting future NBA teams. I am really excited for it, hope you will enjoy it too. Night Tappers.
